Within the
grounds of Marigold Cottage is a
self-contained, self-catering cottage 'Lee House'. This shares the
Marigold Cottage garden. If you are planning to visit the Lincolnshire
coast or Sutton on Sea, you are welcome to stay here. Well-behaved,
garden-friendly dogs are also welcome! Lee House guests have total
access to the Marigold garden at all times.
Facilities
include two twin-bedded rooms and
one double bedroom upstairs, with a bathroom, living room and
dining-kitchen downstairs, all fully modernized. It is a two-minute
walk to a
quiet sandy beach, and a ten-minute walk to the old-fashioned village
of Sutton on Sea. There are good facilities and places to eat and drink
both here and in Sandilands which is a ten-minute walk in the opposite
direction. If you wish to eat out you have a choice of the Sea Breeze restaurant, the Bacchus Hotel, Waldo's fish and chip shop and the Cornerhouse cafeis
the original coffee shop and meeting place close to the sea open most
days of the year. In Sandilands we strongly recommend the Fat Seagull.
Nearby is the Saltfleetby - Theddlethorpe Dunes National Nature
Reserve, which stretches for 8km along the coast north of here, and if
you visit in late October to December, the breeding Grey
Seals at Donna Nook National Nature Reserve are just a 25 minute drive.
This year 2,214 seal pups were born in the dunes here, and it is a world class experience that most people are not aware of.
The nearby market towns of Alford and Louth are worth exploring,
and we are just an hours drive from Lincoln with its wonderful
Cathedral, and of course an original Magna Carta in the Castle. The Wolds offer
marvellous walking with Tennyson connections and part of the Viking
Way. I worked at Gunby Hall as a volunteer in the gardens for 20 years, and this is a
must for a visit of both the house and the gardens. This is a National
Trust property, and the other one not so far away is Tattershall Castle.
