On the 5 pages that follow, I will post reports of our visits to these Chinese narrow gauge and standard gauge lines. With the exception of Honglu, all are real, working steam lines. To make the reports easy to publish during the trip, I've created the structure in advance and this will be added to as the trip progresses. In order to be able to make additions and changes to these pages quickly using my iPad, I'll mainly post text only on these pages and provide a link to the relevant photos on my Flickr site in a new album created for each line. Clicking on any photos I have time to add will also take you to the album as will clicking on the link to the right.
The full tour itinerary is:
Pre-Tour – Honglu & Shibanxi Narrow Gauge - (7 nights)
3 November (Monday) - arrive Chengdu Airport on BA or KLM direct flight from Europe or from elsewhere by 13:00. Meet up and private bus transfer to Yongchuan (4 hrs)
4-5 November - one full-day and additional half-day visit to the ng electric coal railway at Honglu prior to transfer to Sanjin on the ng steam and electric Shibanxi (Jiayang Coal Mine) line
6-9 November - Shibanxi ng line (4 full days on the railway)
10 November - transfer to Chengdu airport to join Rongshan core participants – start of main tour
Main Tour - Rongshan - (7 nights, 6 nights if joining post-tour)
10 November (Monday) - arrive Chengdu Airport on BA or KLM direct flight from Europe or from elsewhere by 13:00. Meet up and private bus transfer to Guangyuan (4 hours) overnight Guangyuan (and for the next 5/6 nights)
11 – 16 November - in Guangyuan with 6 daily visits to Rongshan
16 November (evening) - return Chengdu Airport (overnight airport hotel) for return flights Monday 17 November (or continue with Post-tour)
Post-tour Sandaoling & Baiyin visit - (11 nights)
16 November - evening train from Guangyuan to Lanzhou (or direct to Hami).
17 November - arrive Lanzhou and transfer either by high-speed train (if already in operation) or overnight sleeper train to Hami for Sandaoling.
18 November - arrive Hami early morning, transfer to Sandaoling for afternoon visit to Sandaoling
19-21 November - at Sandaoling
22 November, half or full day at Sandaoling prior to transfer to Hami, and overnight train (or high-speed train) to Lanzhou.
23 November - arrive Lanzhou, transfer to Baiyin in time for the afternoon passenger train
24 November - Baiyin
25 November - morning at Baiyin then transfer to Lanzhou, overnight train Lanzhou - Beijing arriving in Beijing in the afternoon of 26 November
26 November arrive Beijing, overnight airport hotel with breakfast and airport transfer on 27 November included in the tour price
27 November fly home from Beijing (morning flights to Europe on BA and KLM)
